Role: Agricultural Engineer

Location: Shuttleworth College, Old Warden

About the role:

We are currently seeking an Agricultural Engineer to join The Bedford College Group at Shuttleworth College.

Shuttleworth College delivers a range of land-based subjects including agriculture, horticulture, land and wildlife and equine. This role is based at our newly developed Kingshill Farm and involves providing machinery support across the curriculum areas. The key focus is on monitoring and maintaining machinery which ranges from small hand-held items to large modern agricultural equipment.

Within this role you will:
  • Contribute to the effective day to day running of Kingshill Farm by maintaining a range of machinery required to deliver the curriculum and undertake farm operations across the site.
  • Oversee the machinery workshop, taking an active role in promoting health and safety and safe working practices.
  • Facilitate and provide technical support to teaching staff before and during practical sessions and routine farm duties.
About you:

Ideal candidates will have:
  • Level 4 qualification in a land based or engineering subject
  • Level 2 award in Tractor Driving and Related Operations
  • Level 2 award in Land Based Forklift Truck operations
  • GCSE Maths and English Grade A - C or equivalent
  • Relevant experience in workshop and machinery maintenance.
  • Successful practical experience in vocational area.
  • Knowledge of machinery used in agricultural and horticultural operations
  • Knowledge of machinery management, maintenance and repair.

  • Ability to work evenings / weekends if required to support the curriculum / farm operation
  • Current driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • Willingness to travel to and work at all locations where we provide a service
