IN SHORT

HMP Belmarsh Education Department have an exciting new opportunity for a Learner Engagement Specialist to join their team.

You will meet with all new entrants to the prison in a group setting and sometimes individually to help everyone find the best courses available to support them whilst they are incarcerated. Monitor the progress of all learners so that as soon as they become eligible for Distance Learning courses these are made available to them.

Promote education in the prison so that all officers and others who engage with learners encourage them to develop through providing administrative and learner support to the Education Manager and team while offering pastoral care and support through (re) engagement with education, advice, and direction for learners.

The ideal candidate will have excellent IT skills and experience of supporting students / delivering information sessions. You will be an enthusiastic, creative person who can support our learners through their engagement with education. You may previously have worked in education, e.g. as a TA, may wish to become a teacher (full training can be made available) or wish to see if the criminal justice system is one that can benefit from your skills. This is a role that is a superb starting point for a career in prison education.

MK College will treat all applicants fairly and with respect, irrespective of their background, disability or any other individual characteristic. We particularly encourage applications from people with backgrounds which are currently under-represented within Milton Keynes College. All offers made to successful candidates are subject to satisfactory outcomes to a range of pre-employment checks including a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS). In addition, security clearance is required for all prison services positions up to Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) level.
