Make a Lasting Impact on the lives of students with Special Educational Needs and disabilities (SEND). Join our team as an Additional Learning Support (ALS) Team Leader at Stamford College
Whilst prior experience as a senior Learning Support Practitioner is valuable, the successful candidate needs a sound understanding of the support needs of young people with SEND and the deployment of effective strategies to encourage independence in a classroom environment. In addition, the knowledge and experience of leading or supervising others is an essential quality.
In addition to this role, we offer comprehensive training and development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills and the support of existing ALS Team Leaders across the Group.
As an ALS Team Leader, you will collaborate with key colleagues to ensure that identified SEND students receive the necessary, effective, in-class support that is recommended as part of their support plan
Key Responsibilities
In-Class Support Oversight:
  • Allocate resources effectively: Coordinate the allocation of in-class support to students based on their individual needs and the faculty's teaching areas.
  • Optimize staffing: Develop and manage timetables for the support team to ensure efficient use of staff resources and respond to evolving student needs throughout the year.
Team Leadership:
  • Foster a supportive environment: Oversee the performance, training, and well-being of the learning support team, providing mentorship and guidance.
  • Manage staff performance: Conduct probations, performance management, inductions, attendance meetings, and appraisals following college policies.
Collaboration:
  • Partner with stakeholders: Work closely with Heads of Faculty and teaching staff to develop and implement effective strategies for supporting SEND students and managing priority demands.

Record Keeping:
  • Ensure compliance: Collaborate with the Head of ALS and SEND to maintain accurate and comprehensive records of support delivery, meeting funding and audit requirements.
Training and Development:
  • Enhance support practices: Provide guidance and support to staff on in-class support strategies, including observations of practice and coaching, to maximise student independence.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Learning Support experience and or related qualification
  • Proven experience in managing and leading a team or Level 3 qualification in Line Management or equivalent
  • Learning needs and barriers faced by individuals with learning difficulties and or disabilities
  • Willingness to obtain required qualifications if necessary
  • Support recommendations and assistive strategies for individuals with learning difficulties and or disabilities
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with various stakeholders
  • Strong organisation skills and attention to detail/accuracy skills

Who We're Looking For:
  • Supporting individuals with the diverse range of learning difficulties and or disabilities
  • Assessing individual support needs and making appropriate support recommendations
  • Carrying out supervision of staff and giving feedback
  • Line management of others including recruitment, performance management, attendance management, disciplinary and grievance issues
  • Learning needs and barriers faced by individuals with learning difficulties and or disabilities
  • Level 3 qualification in Leadership and Management
  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification
  • Minimum of Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE English Language and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or other Level 2 equivalent qualifications
  • Support strategies for maximising independence
