Primary School Caretaker - Newport

URGENT START

We are looking for a dedicated and reliable Caretaker to join our friendly primary school in Newport. This is a full-time position that requires someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for our students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance & Repairs: Carry out general maintenance and repairs around the school premises, ensuring that all facilities are in excellent working order. This includes tasks such as fixing equipment, plumbing, and basic electrical work.
  • Health & Safety: Regularly inspect the school grounds to ensure safety standards are met. This includes checking playground equipment, securing buildings, and identifying potential hazards.
  • Cleaning & Waste Management: Oversee and assist with the cleaning of classrooms, corridors, and outdoor areas, as well as managing waste disposal and recycling efforts.
  • Security: Open and close the school each day, ensuring all doors, windows, and gates are securely locked. Monitor the premises for any security issues and liaise with external contractors when necessary.
  • Groundskeeping: Maintain the school's outdoor areas, including mowing lawns, trimming hedges, and ensuring pathways are clear of debris.

Requirements:

  • Must have or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS.
  • Ideally have previous experience as a caretaker in a primary school or similar role (e.g., handyman, facilities management).
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance and repair tasks, including plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor.
