Salary Point 25 £28,561 per annum + £3,000 MRA

Hours 37 hours per week, all year round

Location Stamford College (occasional work at Peterborough)

Job Purpose
To provide technical assistance in either plumbing or electrical and general maintenance work to the Estates Manager and Group Director of Estates, and Health and Safety in regards to equipment, stock and budgets.

Key Responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following areas:
  • To respond to unforeseen breakdowns in a timely manner appropriate to the job priority.
  • To carry out planned and preventative maintenance as instructed by the Estates Manger and reported on the Estates Database.
  • To plan daily work schedules based on the lists of maintenance tasks issued and their priority.
  • In carrying out these duties, the technician will determine what work is required, identify and request all materials, schedule the work with the customer and try to ensure that customer disruption is minimised.
  • Engineer may be asked to assist the Estates Manger in planning and implementing improvement projects, utilising their practical expertise.
  • In the event of an emergency, to report to reception and take instruction from the Duty Principal. Engineer may be asked to carry out search and verification tasks.
  • In the event of a fire alarm, one Technician will check location from the fire panel and get as close to the indicated location as necessary (and safe) to verify whether it is a false alarm, reporting to the Duty Principal.
  • To be fully conversant with the procedures for resetting the fire alarm system and emergency release system for the disabled persons lift.
  • To review Health and Safety implications of work task, comply with all relevant Health and Safety instructions, report issues to Manager and request 'Permits to Work' where appropriate. Carry out risk assessment as required.
  • Maintain records for all maintenance requirements.
  • To review health and safety implications of the work task, ensure operatives comply with all relevant health and safety instructions. Carry out risk assessments for own area of responsibility as required.
  • To assist with procuring and managing contractors as necessary to undertake estates maintenance work, to ensure works are concluded on time, cost and quality effectiveness. To be conversant with IEG contractor safety management system.
  • To plan daily work schedules based on the lists of maintenance tasks issued and their priority along with monthly preventative maintenance schedules and their priority.
  • In carrying out these duties, will assist the Estates Manager in determining what work is required, identify and request all materials, schedule the work with the customer and try to ensure that customer disruption is minimised.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
  • Educated to Level 3 in mechanical qualification or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
  • Qualified to Level 3 in English and Maths
  • Substantial experience in Facilities Management
  • Experience in Health and Safety
  • Experience in general maintenance and plumbing
  • Good knowledge of general building infrastructure
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • Qualified in Level 2 in IT
  • Experience of working with suppliers and contractors
  • Ability to use databases
