Assistant Grower

Assistant Grower

About The Role and Person

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Grower to join the team in the Market Garden at Forty Hall Farm, a vibrant and intensive growing site occupying three hectares of land within the farm, demonstrating sustainable organic production techniques whilst producing food for local consumption.

You will support the Head Grower in all aspects of organic horticultural production within the Market Garden, taking an active role in day-to-day production tasks ranging from crop planning and propagation through to harvest and crop storage. You will supervise the packing and delivery of our produce to a range of outlets, particularly our own veg bag scheme Enfield Veg Co and on-site farm shop.

You will be a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced grower, with proven experience of small-scale commercial growing. You will regularly lead groups of students and volunteers, demonstrating appropriate horticultural techniques at a variety of scales, and co-ordinate volunteer recruitment. The work will include various administrative tasks contributing to the operation of the Market Garden, including record keeping as well as developing new sales opportunities.

The Market Garden produces approximately 20,000kg of fruit and vegetables per year and is part of a historic, diverse, Soil Association-certified mixed farm which incorporates extensive livestock production, a five hectare vineyard, a community orchard and woodland over its total 60-hectare extent.
