Salary: £24,939 - £27,613 Per Annum Pro Rata

Contract: Permanent

Location: Sheffield

Hours: 37 Hours per week X 38 Weeks per year

About the Role

Learner Support Assistants work with students who experience barriers in their learning either by reason of disadvantage, learning difficulty or disability. The LSA helps with teaching and learning activities inside or out of the classroom/workshop/off site working with small groups as well as individual learners. The LSA works closely with the teacher leading the class and with Tutorial Mentors to ensure students are positively engaged with their learning, fully stretched and able to achieve their goals whilst enjoying their time in College.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting with the assessment planning, organising and monitoring of individual learning support needs and plans
  • Assisting with the delivery of learning support in the learning environment (e.g. classroom, Workshop, Learning Resource Centre).
  • Responsible for planning, organising and prioritising own standard work within well-established routines or procedures, should be able to determine own priorities and think ahead.
  • Be responsive to requests from students for assistance with equipment, including IT hardware and software.
  • Works as part of or in support of a team, but must be able to take independent action.
Skills & Knowledge

  • Good standard of education to Level 3, with a minimum of Level 2 numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Prior work experience or knowledge gained in a similar role, with students, or in the specific area may be required.
  • Ability to determine work priorities and those of colleagues.
  • Thorough knowledge of learning support processes and working practices and a good understanding of how these relate to the wider College.
