Pastoral Support Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting young people and helping them achieve their best? We are seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Assistant to join an OFSTED 'Good' secondary school in Hackney. This role is ideal for someone with experience working in pastoral based roles, especially with students facing emotional and behavioural challenges. As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you will be involved in all aspects of student life. This includes students' wellbeing, pastoral support, behavioural management, conflict resolution and student supervision. As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you will be a friendly and supportive presence around the school, forming positive relationships with staff and students.

About the Role:

As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you'll play a key role in ensuring a positive and supportive environment for our students. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Behaviour Management: Develop and implement strategies to uphold high standards of student behaviour. Manage behaviour within your year group, including detentions, reports, and communication with parents.
  • Attendance and Punctuality: Support efforts to achieve and maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Monitoring and Tracking: Oversee systems for tracking and monitoring student behaviour throughout the school day.
  • Motivation and Rewards: Encourage and reward students for positive behaviour and academic excellence.
  • Collaboration with Staff: Work closely with teachers to address students' needs and ensure effective strategies are in place.
  • Parent Engagement: Build and maintain effective relationships with parents through meetings, phone calls, and written communication.
  • Wellbeing and Mental Health: Lead the development of strategies to support student wellbeing and manage academic interventions.
  • Conflict Resolution: Implement and manage effective conflict resolution strategies for both students and staff.
  • Uniform and Policy Enforcement: Monitor and enforce the Academy's uniform policy and handle disciplinary issues as necessary.
  • Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate student records and manage both manual and electronic administrative systems.
  • Supervision and Support: Oversee transitions and provide support to students removed from lessons, ensuring their successful reintegration.

Key Attributes We're Looking For:

  • Experience in a pastoral support role, preferably within a school setting.
  • Proven ability to work with young people facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • Experience in a secondary school environment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Effective organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • An enhanced DBS on the OUS
