IN SHORT

Are you passionate about your trade/skills?

Are you looking to do something different?

Have you ever thought about getting into Education and passing on some of your knowledge?

Milton Keynes College are looking for individuals with first-hand knowledge and experience in Carpentry to provide support to our learners at HMP Fosse Way. You will support the smooth running of the workshop and maintain the workshops inventory, as well as providing general and practical support to both learners, teachers and the wider education team.

We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible and hardworking individuals who enjoy contributing to and working as part of a team. You will play a key role in the correct and appropriate use of equipment and resources used as well as support and guide learners with their practical and theory work. Learners will benefit from your invaluable hands-on experience and gain the knowledge they need to enter the Carpentry/Trade sector, all within an industry standard environment. You will work closely with Teaching staff - many of the learners have a diverse range of needs and learning abilities, they will often have had a negative experience with education, in this role you have a unique opportunity to impact and shape their perception of education.

We are keen to hear from candidates with experience from the Carpentry/Woodwork/Construction sector, who are interested in starting a career within education – no education/teaching specific qualifications required - we can provide the training to help you achieve your full potential, just as we expect you to be able to help our learners achieve theirs.

MK College will treat all applicants fairly and with respect, irrespective of their background, disability or any other individual characteristic. We particularly encourage applications from people with backgrounds which are currently under-represented within Milton Keynes College. All offers made to successful candidates are subject to satisfactory outcomes to a range of pre-employment checks including a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS). In addition, security clearance is required for all prison services positions up to Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) level.

ABOUT HMP FOSSE WAY

HMP Fosse Way is a Category C super prison, holding in excess of 1700 adult male sentenced offenders. The prison operates an offence neutral approach to rehabilitation and is privately operated by Serco.

HMP Fosse Way is built on the site previously occupied by HMP Glen Parva, which closed its gates in 2017. The competition to choose a new name for the prison was run by the HM Prison and Probation Service amongst the local community and after a six-week consultation, the name Fosse Way was chosen. The origin of the name Fosse Way is deep rooted in South Leicestershire, and was a roman road originally built to link key areas such as Exeter, Lincoln, Bath and Leicester across the country. The name is also popular with a number of local businesses and venues so seemed a fitting choice.

HMP Fosse Way’s focus is firmly fixed on reducing reoffending and preventing future victims of crime by preparing offenders for their release through accredited intervention programmes, skill and vocational based training and education, in a pro social environment.

Courses at HMP Fosse Way include Maths, English, IT, Bricklaying, Carpentry, Fork-Lift, Barbering, Business Mentoring, and much more.

The education delivery hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am – 11.15am, 1:30pm – 4:15pm, with staff working on-site 8:10am – 4:40pm each day. Class sizes typically range from 12 learners in classrooms to 17 learners in workshops.

The site offers free parking, with South Wigston Train Station located within walking distance. Staff facilities include a bistro, coffee shop, gym and electric car charging points.
