Equine Teacher - part time

About the role as a Equine Teacher:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Equine Teacher to join our supportive and driven team of specialists at Merrist Wood College, 1 day a week. You will be teaching across a selection of equine programs ranging from Level 2 and Level 3 courses.

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and creative individuals with the ability to inspire, so that students studying on our Equine courses have a memorable learning experience. A genuine interest in working with and developing young people is a requirement.

With your excellent subject knowledge and practice skills you will work collaboratively with our existing team of talented and passionate teachers to ensure we plan and deliver purposeful practical and theory lessons, and participate in the curriculum development to meet the needs of changing industry demands.

Our Land-based department has an excellent record of delivering vocational Equine courses with employability embedded at their heart. This is achieved through excellent relationships with industry and the employment of experts with extensive professional experience within the teaching team. We deliver well-established and highly successful professionally accredited courses in Equine. Within our Equine facilities we have one of the largest indoor riding arenas compared to other colleges in the country and one of the top centres in the southeast, with stabling for over 42 horses and a range of livery options. We were also a pre-Olympic training venue for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

What do you need to be successful in this role?

To be successful as an Equine Teacher, you will need a L3 or equivalent in equine science or a related field. Extensive practical experience with horses is essential and hold a minimum of a Stage 3 in Complete Horsemanship from the British Horse Society (BHS)?.

Whilst previous teaching experience and qualification would be an advantage, it is not a requirement. As long as you have the qualifications to teach on our Equine courses and demonstrate the attributes to be an inspirational teacher, we can provide you with the necessary training, development and support to equip you to teach in the FE sector.

Your communication and interpersonal skills will be outstanding and support your ability to deliver interesting and purposeful lessons to a diverse range of learners. You will also have strong organisation skills coupled with the ability to prioritise workloads and will benefit from being part of a supportive team, working in a varied and interesting role with a variety of opportunities for career development.
