IN SHORT

Are you looking for a role in an exciting environment with a meaningful purpose?

This could be the perfect opportunity to start a career working with young people.

Milton Keynes College are looking to engage a Progress Mentor to support our Skills Academy Students based in Chaffron Way & Bletchley campuses in Milton Keynes. You will work with the Head of School and Programme Managers to support student personal development and also address any barriers to success they might have.

The role will be equally split between delivering personal development tutorials and reviews in the classroom and working out of class with individual students and small groups requiring additional coaching support to achieve. You will be directly supporting our students by using risk metrics to identify those requiring intervention support to succeed, this will be both through Personal Development Reviews as part of the tutorial offer and also through target based action plans where out of classroom support is required. This role is at the heart of the College value “Belonging,” our intent is for all students to be invested in their College learning experience.

The Skills Academy is focused on providing fairer futures for Level 1 students who need to build their skills for progression – This will include core areas: English, Maths and Digital skills; but also developing personal skills and behaviours, encouraging engagement with education and building their confidence, with the aim to get them ready for the world of work or indeed further study. Students also have the unique opportunity to study either a specialist vocational pathway in one of our many vocational specialisms or alternatively study up to 3 blocks in different vocational specialisms offering a unique bespoke study programme for those needing support to decide upon their future career.

MK College will treat all applicants fairly and with respect, irrespective of their background, disability or any other individual characteristic. We particularly encourage applications from people with backgrounds which are currently under-represented within Milton Keynes College. All offers made to successful candidates are subject to satisfactory outcomes to a range of pre-employment checks including a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS). In addition, security clearance is required for all prison services positions up to Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) level.
