Director of Skills (ESOL, (SEND), (Key Stage 4))

Our client is seeking a Director of Skills to develop the College as a centre of excellence for a range of programs that supports access to education for all. To lead the ESOL, Inclusive Learning and Alternative Provision curriculum areas in all aspects, providing strategic and operational leadership. To lead on the development of unique gateway offer for young people.

As a member of the senior management team, you will contribute to the success of the organisation, its students, and employees.

To be successful in this role. You will need to have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to motivate and inspire others with a focus on setting and maintaining high standards, supporting and developing staff with a proactive and positive approach.

You will also need sound specialist knowledge and previous teaching experience in one or more relevant curriculum area ( ESOL, Inclusive Learning, or Alternative Provision ), with a focus on curriculum innovation and curriculum development and planning.

Role Duties:

  • To be responsible for the leadership, management and development of the LGC's young people's provision and ensuring that the quality of the delivery is of the highest standard.
  • To lead and manage student learning programmes to include vocational courses, English, maths and digital skills, enterprise and engagement with employers and ensure successful achievement of qualifications and the positive progression of students.
  • To engage directly with employers and professional bodies to create a distinctive young people's gateway offer, which is matched to local and regional employment needs.
  • Grow and develop programmes in line with local stakeholder need, meeting agreed growth targets within agreed deadlines.
  • Leading, managing, and being accountable for sustained improvements in student achievement and progression.
  • To work with the Senior Leadership Team to achieve the College vision of excellence through the development and implementation of the College and Group Strategic Plans and Quality Improvement Plans.
  • To make sure that cost-effective models of delivery are planned and delivered in line with agreed targets and business planning.
  • To ensure that within the defined area of responsibility in English and Maths is delivered in such a way to ensure high levels of outcomes for learners.
  • To manage a team of staff to ensure effective deployment of resources and achievement of KPIs, both academic and business.
  • To develop and ensure the delivery of an outstanding learning experience to all learners and to promote and help develop outstanding standards of teaching, learning and assessment.
  • To monitor targets for learner participation, retention, attendance, achievement, success and progression.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead, manage and develop an outstanding curriculum offer that helps students develop their skills and prepares them for progression either into and in the workplace and/or to continue with their studies.
  • To provide leadership, management and direction to staff across the area ensuring that staff are motivated, developed, encouraged and supported effectively.
  • Ensuring highly effective communications across the area and all sites, ensuring the staff are informed about key college priorities and the tasks and activities required in the area to achieve these.
  • Effectively manage the staff resource within the area, ensuring utilisation targets are met and that costs are controlled and remain within budget.
  • Ensure effective performance management of staff within the area setting appropriate and stretching performance targets and regularly reviewing performance, with interventions as necessary.
  • Take responsibility for the management of budget and ensure that all resources are deployed effectively and within agree allocations without any unauthorised overspend.

Person specification

  • A degree or equivalent professional qualification
  • Teaching qualification (DTTLS, PGCE, Cert Ed)
  • A Management Qualification
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD)
  • Master's degree (Desirable)
  • Experience of curriculum planning and effective deployment of staff and other resources
