About the role:

We have a great opportunity for a cook to join our in-house team at our Merrist Wood College Campus to deliver excellent food & refreshment services to our students, staff and guests.

As a Cook you will be responsible for the daily catering requirements of the College, ensuring that all meals produced are in a timely manner and to the highest standards.

The post holder will be part of a Food service staff team and under the leadership of our Chef Manager, however on occasions, the post holder will be required to work on their own as the duty chef, and be temporarily responsible at these times for all aspects of food production, presentation, hygiene, health and safety within the kitchens.

This is a permanent, full-time post working 37 hours per week during 44 weeks of term-time (0.84) on straight shifts between 7am to 3pm Monday to Friday – with a flexible requirement to support on Open Day events on selected evenings and weekends with prior notice. The salary will be pro-rata to £20,697 - £22,520 per annum.

What do you need to be successful as a Cook at Activate Learning?

You will have sound chef's skills as well as previous experience in kitchen supervision and basic management, having worked in the industry for at least 3 years. If you don't have a food hygiene certificate you must be willing to work towards one, and possess an awareness of manual handling techniques, COSHH and kitchen safety. The successful candidate must be a clear communicator, and have a minimum level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy or be willing to work towards these qualifications.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a Further Education environment, and be familiar with EPOS till operations, though we will provide training for this if not.
