Arboricultural Machinery Teacher

About the role: Machinery Teacher

Do you want to transform your career and pass on your industry experience to the next generation of students who are looking to follow a career within forestry and countryside management?

Activate Learning are now looking for a Machinery Teacher to join our Landbased teaching team at Merrist Wood College.

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and creative individuals with the ability to inspire, so that our students have a memorable learning experience.

With your excellent subject knowledge and practical skills you will work collaboratively with our existing team of talented and passionate teachers to ensure we plan and deliver purposeful practical and theory lessons up to level 4, and participate in the curriculum development to meet the needs of changing industry demands.

Merrist Wood College has a national and international reputation amongst employers and industry specialists and a long history of providing unrivalled education in the land-based sectors. You’ll get to work within a beautiful 420-acre estate of woodlands, wetlands, livestock, gardens and grasslands.

This is a permanent, part-time role working 7.5 hours per week (0.2 FTE) at our Merrist Wood College campus.

What do you need to be a successful Machinery Teacher at Activate Learning?

We are looking for people who can act as role models for our students and ensure that they leave us with not just their professional qualifications, but the attributes required to progress in the world of work.

You will have a relevant qualification at Level 3 or above in an area such as Arboriculture, Horticulture/Landscaping, Countryside Management, Agriculture, or Agricultural Engineering.

You must have extensive experience in the operation and maintenance of a range of landbased machinery, including both handheld and ride-on grounds maintenance equipment.

Whilst previous teaching experience and qualification would be an advantage, it is not a requirement. As long as you have the qualifications to teach Machinery and demonstrate the attributes to be an inspirational teacher, we can provide you with the necessary training, development and support to equip you to teach in the FE sector.

Likewise, a formal qualification in machinery operations such as NPTC, Lantra or NPORS would be desirable, but not required.

You will also have strong organisation skills coupled with the ability to prioritise workloads and will benefit from being part of a supportive team, working in a varied and interesting role with a variety of opportunities for career development.
