Governance Officer

About the Role: Governance Officer

The Governance officer at Activate Learning will develop and maintain effective relationships with Governors, the executive team, and stakeholders, manage governance queries, and oversee the shared mailbox. Plan and organise Corporation Board and committee meetings, including logistical arrangements and preparing and distributing agendas and papers, as well as taking and drafting clear meeting minutes.

Governance Officer responsibilities also include monitoring and advising on governance documents, updating the governance sections of the website, and managing the archiving and filing of records. Assist with the appointment, resignation, and development of Governors, maintaining records, and supporting recruitment. Additionally, maintain policy schedules, assist in policy reviews, ensure timely submissions to regulatory bodies, and manage responses to complaints.

Collaborate with the Head of Governance to manage workloads and provide cover during absences, with regular travel to other college sites as needed.

The Governance Officer position is a full-time, hybrid role that requires travel to other campuses. The main campus locations could be Oxford, Reading, or Guildford

What do you need to be a successful Governance Officer at Activate Learning?

The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in administrative functions and demonstrate expertise in minute-taking. We seek a highly accurate individual with meticulous attention to detail, who learns quickly and exhibits a proactive, can-do attitude. The ability to work efficiently under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and juggle multiple priorities is essential.

While a qualification in Business Administration is not required, it is highly desirable. Additionally, experience in governance, compliance, or serving as an Executive Assistant will be viewed favourably. Familiarity with an educational environment is desired but not essential. The candidate should also have the capability to conduct training sessions and hold a full driving license, as these skills will be advantageous in the role.
