Over the last 50 years, Capel Manor College has helped thousands of school leavers and adults achieve their dream of working with animals, plants and the environment. As London's environmental college, the College plays a vital role in the green agenda for the capital, equipping the next generation of land-based sector workers with the skills and knowledge needed to preserve and protect London's wildlife, national parks and green spaces.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Capel Manor College and we are now seeking to appoint a Gardener to work at our Enfield Campus.

Capel Manor College in Enfield is a sprawling 30 acre estate which includes gardens, a holly maze, a fairy forest, a lake and a mini-zoo. The gardens are open to the public in the warmer months and the College also hosts a number of events throughout the year. The College is now looking for a Gardener to join its team to help to maintain the gardens. The post holder will carry out a range of responsibilities, including planting, forking beds, hoeing, mulching, fertilizing, mowing and hedge-cutting to maintain the overall appearance of the gardens. The post holder will also support the College's students and volunteers to gain gardening experience, knowledge and skills.

The ideal candidate will have some practical gardening experience and experience using a variety of gardening tools. They will also have sound plant knowledge and the ability to work effectively using their own initiative. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to support students and volunteers are also important.

This post may include some weekend working. The typical hours for the post are:

1 October until 31 March

8.00am until 4.00pm Monday to Wednesday and 8.00am until 3.00pm Thursday and Friday

1 April to 30 September

8.00am until 5.00pm Monday to Thursday and 8.00am until 4.00pm Friday

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, as well as the opportunity to work in a supportive, collaborative and beautiful land-based environment.

In order to be considered for the position, an application form must be completed. CVs will not be accepted. For further details and to apply, please visit the job vacancies section on the Capel Manor College website.

Please note that the College does not have a sponsorship licence. We are therefore unable to consider applicants who do not have the right to work in the UK.

We reserve the right to close a position once sufficient suitable applications have been received to form a short list. Early application is therefore encouraged.
