An exciting opportunity has arisen at CCCG for a Science Technician to work as a member of the team providing technical support and expertise to the science and engineering department at our Kings Cross Centre.

About the Role:

To work as a member of a team providing chemistry and physics technical support and expertise of Criminal, Forensic, Medical and General Sciences on the L2/L3 Applied Science, Medical Science and Criminal and Forensic science Programmes.

  • Preparing equipment, materials and set up equipment and other resources for practical classes with a focus on Physics and Chemistry. Retrieving and clearing up equipment, materials etc. General maintenance (including cleaning) of equipment and basic maintenance of general laboratory services and facilities. Ordering the consumables supplies and keeping the appropriate records in line with the college financial guidelines and procedures.
  • Provide in class support during practical lessons when requested and advise staff on the use of equipment.
  • Responsible for the organisation, maintenance, servicing and storage of equipment, materials used in science practicals.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of specialist resources typically found in laboratories as well as stationary supplies for teaching staff.
  • Ensuring the health and safety of staff, students and visitors to the workshops and laboratories and disposing of workshop hazardous waste as per legal guidelines.
  • Participating in the selection of equipment and in the development of the departments' facilities and liaising with suppliers.

About you:

You will be/have -

  • Qualified to at least Level 5 or equivalent in a relevant chemistry/physics discipline.
  • Experience of preparing materials and laboratories for biology/chemistry and physics experiments in an educational environment.
  • Knowledge of equipment to support with chemistry and physic experiments.
  • Knowledge of health and safety and risk assessments in an education environment
  • Ability to work as a member of a team in a teaching environment.
  • Ability to support teaching staff during practical lessons.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students.
  • Ability to operate prescribed systems relating to workshop organisation including keeping appropriate written and computerised records.
