City College Plymouth is home to thousands of bright and enthusiastic students and 650 talented and experienced staff. You will be joining a college that is proud of its culture, where our core values of Respect, Ownership and Integrity are there to nurture and support a passion for teaching and learning, enriching our community through knowledge, experience and skills enabling every student to be the best they can be.

At City College Plymouth, one of the country's largest providers of quality education and training, we are going through a period of transition to enable us to propel education into the future. We pride ourselves on delivering a learning environment and organisational culture that impact positively on the health, wellbeing and sustainability of our community and enables all our students and staff to achieve their full potential.

The Role

We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic English Lecturers to join our successful team at City College Plymouth. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching in Functional Skills and GCSE English to students aged 16 and above. Our students include adults, 16-19 learners on study programmes across the college, and apprentices. We also delivery English for Academic Purposes to International students, including IELTS preparation.

The ideal candidate will plan and deliver engaging lessons, assess and provide feedback on student work, and prepare students for exams to ensure they achieve their full potential. Supporting students' academic and personal development, staying current with curriculum changes, and participating in departmental meetings are essential parts of the role. Qualifications in English, a recognised teaching qualification or the willingness to work towards achieving one, and experience in teaching Functional Skills and GCSE English are required. We are looking for team players who promote a supportive, collaborative working environment. If you are passionate about teaching English and helping students succeed, apply today to join our dynamic team.

What Will You Bring to the Role
  • Creating: You will approach challenges around teaching English language in a creative way, looking to overcome barriers and apply a passionate approach to language and how it can empower learners.
  • Encouraging: you will use different teaching techniques and approaches to encourage students to overcome barriers and build their confidence in the classroom.
  • Interacting: You will engage positively with students, colleagues, and stakeholders, fostering a collaborative and supportive atmosphere.
  • Organising: You will efficiently plan and manage your time and resources to ensure effective lesson delivery and a well-structured learning environment.
Benefits

In return for your resource creation, unrivaled advice, and accountability for the service you provide, City College Plymouth will offer you;
  • Holiday: 50 days inclusive of bank holidays and College Closure over Christmas.
  • Career development opportunities, training for professional qualifications up to level 6/7 as well as in house training. Support with individual development of the role.
  • Generous contributions towards your pension.
  • Free tea, coffee and healthy snacks in our dedicated staff lounge.
How we recruit

We are not prioritising the CV - we aim to recruit based on potential, not experience. We are interested in seeing your behaviours in action and how they will help you become successful at City College Plymouth, giving everyone the opportunity to show their potential, regardless of background or experience.

After completing our online application form, you will be asked to complete an online assessment within a few days of this Vacancy closing. This assessment asks you no questions at all. Instead, it observes your behaviour and natural strengths in action, with a series of engaging, intuitive tasks. You will receive a report outlining your behaviours once you have completed the assessment, regardless of whether you progress to the next stage or not, providing you with some feedback.
